Hello friends and team mates:
I have long wanted to participate in a Polar Plunge and have been taking cold showers for weeks now! I was thrilled to find out Encova has a team for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge this year. We have a Disney theme and will be wearing some funky costumes. I am wearing Day of the Dead from the movie "Coco"
My family has a special place in our hearts for Special Olympics. When my niece was Captain of the Cheer team at the University of New Mexico, she created a legacy project to teach a Special Olympics cheer class, which had not been done before.
She singlehandedly raised the money to get uniforms and pom poms for all the participants and kindly and patiently taught them the words and the movements to cheers she wrote in their honor.
At the final presentation and recital, I can confirm that there was not a dry eye in the house! It was beautiful, moving and heartwarming. I won't forget the complete joy on those adorable faces as the crowd went wild with applause and whoops.
With that as my inspiration, I figure the least I can do is take a polar plunge and do my part.
